masterpiece theatre concert performed by two of Broadway's most venerated and gifted performers. Appearing together again after their Tony Award winning performances in Evita 30 years ago, they are at the Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W. Randolph) for a limited, six performance engagement from March 2 -7. 2010.
The audience went wild with enthusiastic applause after every show tune. The two magnificent voices joined together in masterpiece show tunes like Stephen
Sondheim's Another Hundred People, Getting Married Today, Old Friends,
Everything's Coming Up Roses, Rogers and Hammerstein's A Cockeyed Optimist, Some Enchanted Evening, If I Loved You, You'll Never Walk Alone, and songs from Jerome Kern, John Kander and Fred Ebb, Julie Styne, Irving Berlin, Frank Loesser, Howard Ashman and Alan Menken.
Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune critic, raved with three stars, calling the evening
"a reminder of the pleasure a Chicago audience takes in the arrival of genuine,
adult, deeply experienced stars of the American musical stage."
Patinkin, dressed like LuPone, all in total black, is a defining figure of graceful, thoughtful posture with a mesmerizing, unique voice which takes on many flavors of pitch and tone. His singing is a theatrical act all its own, filled with drama, humor, sadness, happiness and a witty style all his own.
LuPone is a theatre and musical legend and says that "each of the songs tells a
story, the different aspects of the relationship between a man and a woman acted out onstage." She plays directly to the packed audience just as she has performed in many hit shows including Evita, Gypsy and Sweeney Todd.
Ann Reinking is the choreographer for An Evening with Patti Lupone and Mandy Patinkin. She has also received the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Chicago, among her many hit plays.
Charles McNulty, Los Angeles Times critic said, "Don't miss an opportunity to let
these two Broadway veteran revive the old passion with their inimitable mix of spring freshness and autumn color."
