The critically hailed Blue Man Group and world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization, Autism Speaks, have teamed up to announce a collaborative Blue Man Group performance Sunday, October 4 at 4 p.m. Slight modifications will be made to the performance at the Briar Street Theatre (3133 N. Halsted) in order to better accommodate individuals with autism.

After the show

As guests enter the theater, Blue Man Group will create a calming environment for them to enjoy, complete with beanbags, dim lighting and quiet corners for anyone seeking a sensory break from the excitement of the show. Sound levels during the performance will be reduced at select moments and noise isolating headphones will be available for individuals upon request.

“Last year’s performance was incredibly successful,” said Mary Rios, Director of the Chicagoland Chapter of Autism Speaks. “We are grateful to Blue Man Group for continuing our partnership with an additional autism-friendly performance, and for their generous support of our organization. It allows individuals within the autism community to experience something that others may take for granted.”

“We are proud to align Blue Man Group with such a great organization as Autism Speaks,” said Mary Grisolano, General Manager of Blue Man Group Chicago. “Having an audience full of people who live with autism last year was gratifying for everyone at the Briar Street Theatre, and Blue Man Group has now expanded our commitment to Autism Speaks to involve all of our productions in America. We hope our sensory-friendly shows will allow for families affected by autism to have an entertaining and remarkable experience together.”

Blue man and family

Tickets to this performance are available for $49, with $5 from every ticket purchased donated to Autism Speaks. The proceeds from this show will be added to the $12,000 that Blue Man Group has already raised for the organization through audience donations during its April shows in Chicago. One of the world’s most popular theatrical productions, today’s Blue Man Group is a blend of signature material that has been in the show since the opening, as well as newer passages that examine the influence of technology on today’s world with a funny and perceptive look at contemporary communication vehicles. The performance then closes with a pulsating finale that has audiences up and out of their seats, featuring an original Blue Man Group music score.
