Mother's Day is May 12, 2013 - Find Something Great to Do


Finding a way to let Mothers know how much they mean can be challenging. Here are some ideas that may help you show your appreciation on Mother’s Day, May12, 2013.

For the mom who loves to bake:


World renowned pastry guru and Chicago’s expert chocolate artist, Chef Alain Roby of the All Chocolate Kitchen, 33 S. Third St in Geneva, will feature “The Mother of All Foodies” Contest on Mother’s Day, where contestants will share their favorite chocolate dessert recipe for a chance to bake with Chef Roby himself. Before baking at the All Chocolate Kitchen, the winner and a guest will be treated to a manicure and pedicure, signature facial, Manisha eyebrow threading, and a makeover with Jane Medale products from Beauté by Sylvie, a European Day Spa, 211 James St., in Geneva. For the fun, fondue-loving mom:

Geja’s Café, 340 W. Armitage, will treat all moms to a complimentary 5-minute massage on Mother’s Day.  Moms will step away from the table to receive a well-deserved pampering in a secluded relaxing atmosphere with licensed massage therapists from Lincoln Park Massage Spa while they dine. For the perfect mother-daughter tea and Mother’s Day brunch:

The newly renovated Drury Lane, 100 Drury Lane, provides the perfect setting to celebrate Mother’s Day.  On Saturday, May 11 at 3 p.m., Drury Lane invites Mothers and Daughters to enjoy tea in the gorgeous new French Room, followed by a performance of the critically-acclaimed, Tony Award-winning musical OLIVER! at 5 p.m. On Sunday, May 12 from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., Drury Lane features a lavish Mother’s Day Brunch that diners of all ages will enjoy.  An annual tradition, this year marks the first Mother’s Day Brunch following Drury Lane’s extensive renovation of its lobby, lounge and ballroom spaces.  Reservations are required by calling 630.530.8300 in advance.

Paying homage to one of the greatest movie musicals of all time, Theatre at the Center presents What a Glorious Feeling at 2:30 p.m. on Mother’s Day. For “The Greatest Show on Earth”:

For “An Enchanted Evening” at the theater:

For a truly touching mother-daughter story:

Prairie Grass Cafe
If you are celebrating Mother's Day on Chicago's North Shore, Prairie Grass Cafe (601 Skokie Boulevard, Northbrook, IL 60062; 847-205-4433) is featuring an exciting brunch. From 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. a sumptuous buffet, with desserts, will be offered for $45 per adult and $15 per child ten and under.


Prairie Grass Café will begin th e celebration by serving each guest their signature PGC Benedict, a poached egg with spinach and roasted tomato hollandaise. The buffet continues with a variety of tasty selections including Grilled Chicken and Penne Pasta Salad and Applewood Smoke Maple Creek Farm Bacon. Other choices include a platter of Grilled Asparagus, with lemon cream sauce and sliced radishes, Parmesan Crusted Tilapia over creamed spinach and Braised Pork with spicy sauce and refried black beans.
