A Taste of Theater is a Community Theatre organization which was created in Chicago Illinois in 2011 by Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Pierre Evans and co-owners, Mr. Victor Gulley and Ms. Regina High.

A Taste of Theatre Festival exposes, educates and entertains a diverse audience of professional, intermediate and novice playwrights, thespians and staff members. Playwrights compete by showcasing a twenty-five minute segment of their play. Just as movie trailers provide the public with insight about the movie they intend to see, A Taste of Theatre offers theater lovers the opportunity to see a “Taste” of productions from playwrights across the country.

This festival is composed of workshops, which consist of valuable resources for both playwrights and actors. It affords them the opportunity to meet fellow writers and thespians while honing their craft. During the festival they also have the opportunity to meet well known actors, directors and producers.

In 2013, the Taste of Theatre Television show was developed after the first year’sfestival in 2012. Playwrights came from around the country to showcase one scene from their play; which was voted for by the audience in attendance. The playwright with the most votes received the Shelley Garrett Award. For those not familiar with Shelly Garrett, he was the first playwright to tour his production, “Beauty Shop” around the country booking and selling out large venues. He paved the way for playwrights such as Tyler Perry and David E. Talbert.

The Taste of Theatre television show introduces audiences to playwrights who may have otherwise remained unknown. During this half an hour show, playwrights are interviewed and a snippet from their play is aired. This way, these artist will get the exposure not only they need, but deserve. A Taste of Theatre television show has been viewed on over 50 TV Stations nation wide and now can be accessed on the Taste of Theatre channel which can be downloaded on AppleTV, Amazon Fire and ROKU devices. The program will debut overseas on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at noon on Cape Town TV in Cape Town South Africa.

The Taste of Theatre also had a radio station which was broadcasted on WGSJBC Smooth Jazz 90.5. Playwrights from around the country were interviewed by radio host Rob G and given the oppountity to discuss and promote their plays.

The Taste of Theater Festival will take place on October 7-8, 2016 at the Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory High School, located at 250 E. 111th Street, Chicago, Illinois 60628.

During the Festival workshops, playwrights and actors will learn the fundamentals of operating a theatre and what artistic directors look for when selecting scripts for productions from Renako Jahi, the former artistic director of ETA Creative arts. They will learn script development from Illunga Adelle, a television writer who has written episodes for the tv series, such as Sanford & Son and Moesha. Attendees will also learn the business of Acting from Mr. Harold Dennis

Aspiring actors will have the opportunity to participate in “Acting With The Stars”.  Actors will be given the opportunity to read a script opposite of a Hollywood actor and be given tips on how to improve their performance. This years stars include: R&B Singer/Actor Christopher Williams, Drew Sidora, Cynda Williams and Antoine McKay.

Theatrical performances begin 6:30 pm each night. Audiences will have to opportunity to see a twenty-five minute snippet of productions from playwrights all over the country as well as the opportunity to ask them questions and vote on their favorite plays.
