NightBlue Performing Arts Company Presents, The Producers, a Review

While NightBlue Performing Arts Company Chicago Non-Equity Premiere production of The Producers, at Stage 773, may need some skeletal work, at its core it is a funny and entertaining show that showcases talented actors, singers, and dancers. Mel Brooks' The Producers is a big, loud, hilarious show that requires flashy numbers and comic character actors to make it work. Luckily for NightBlue, they had both.

The choreography, created by Kim Green and Jenna Schoppe, was outstanding. From the tap numbers to the soft shoe, to the dancing old ladies, the choreography was captivating and creative. Some of the best moments of the show were during the large cast numbers which provided some of the most stunning dances in the show.

If the dancing was the creative body of the show, Ryan Stajmiger, as Leo Bloom, is the heart and soul. Stajmiger encompassed Blooms nervous, yet lovable, charm all while singing and dancing incredibly. Like Bloom, Stajmiger is the glue that holds the show together and makes you want to keep watching.
