With Christmas only days away, holiday cheer was in no short supply at the Chicago Theatre as it welcomed country superstar Martina McBride for a special concert. Chicago was the last stop for McBride’s The Joy of Christmas Tour, playing to a sold out crowd of die-hard country fans and Christmas carol lovers alike.
The Grammy and CMA winning performer brought the magic of Christmas to all in attendance. Set to a festive backdrop Martina and her band kicked off the show with holiday favorites including Silver Bells, White Christmas, Let It Snow, I’ll Be Home For Christmas and The Christmas Song. The crowd smiled and sang along recognizing McBride’s renditions from her 1998 Platinum selling Christmas album, White Christmas.
Amid the music, she created a warm and festive atmosphere by sharing Christmas stories and memories with the audience. Connecting further with her adoring fans, she even ventured into the audience mid-show to ask them what they wanted for Christmas. As she gave hugs and posed for photos, it was clear that thanks to meeting her, she was already making some holiday wishes come true.
Soon after, Martina took to the stage again, only this time she would be putting the holiday tunes on hold. The audience roared and rose to their feet to dance as she began singing some of her acclaimed greatest hits including Blessed, This One’s For the Girls and In My Daughter’s Eyes.
The audience was provided with yet another surprise as special guest Brian Urlacher stopped in to lead a reading of the Dr. Suess classic How The Grinch Stole Christmas. The Chicago Bears linebacker recited the story as Martina stood by his side to accompany, singing, You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch.
Capping off an exciting and upbeat evening of holiday music, McBride closed with her most loved track off her holiday album an acoustic performance of O’ Holy Night. With equal parts passion and power, she belted the number to a standing ovation and uproarious applause from her fans.
One could not ask for a better way to capture the spirit of the season. The Joy of Christmas is truly a holiday sensation, perfect for the whole family and is sure to be a concert to remember for years to come!
