The sports world must still enjoy the “Stinger” because numerous awards keep coming his way. He received one special award in 2013 when he became Actor Mike Glenn, playing himself in an award-winning movie, Spirit of Love: The Mike Glenn Story. He has also written 5 books.

Mike enjoyed his glory days as a basketball player but now he gets his enjoyment by spending his time with The Mike Glenn Foundation, a non-profit organization that does  a variety of major projects. His Foundation had the first nation-wide camp known as The Mike Glenn’s All-Star Basketball Camp for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing youth, which celebrated its 36th year in  June 2015. This is Mike Glenn's way of giving back.

Noonday starts with Mike and other athletes helping him unveil a literary and pictorial display of his historical collection with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Stonecrest Library, in Lithonia, Georgia. It will be open “Free” to the public and will continue to be on display the entire month of October.

Youth as well as adults are strongly encouraged to take part in observing and learning about all the unique items that have been collected, especially those items depicting the historical journey From Molineaux to Michael: African-Americans in Athletics.

Mr. Glenn chose this appropriate title because he feels history started with former slave/boxer Tom Molineaux in the late1700’s and early 1800’s.

He fought fellow slaves while plantation owners gambled on him and other fighters. Molineaux won most of the fights but one special fight granted him his freedom and $500. Finding a way to travel to Europe, Molineaux  lost two notorious fights to world heavyweight champion, Englishman, Tom Cribb in 1810 and 1811. Most sports historians agree that Tom Molineaux should have been declared the champion after the first fight. Despite the controversial defeat in 1810 and the unquestioned loss in 1811, he earned the respect of boxing fans worldwide. Molineaux was the first great American athlete to compete for a world title.

Our generation is very familiar with Michael Jordan, a former NBA player who is considered to be the greatest player of all time. After his playing glory days he became a businessman, as well as the owner and chairman of the NBA Charlotte Hornets.

Through the Molineaux and Jordan triumphant victories, Mr. Glenn had a vision of  having an Award Banquet to honor local and long distance sports heroes who have made their mark in history. The Tom Molineaux Award Banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m. with dinner, awards, entertainment and a dance to follow for celebrating these sport heroes in their various sport achievements. Retired/Current NBA, NFL, other businesses and the public will witness these sports heroes with their special ”One Moment In Time” at the exclusive/elegant Lions of Judah Event Center, Stone Mountain, Georgia.
