Henri Bendel, the famous fifth avenue women’s store from NYC, has officially opened its doors to the fashionistas of Atlanta as of September 30, 2012!  Originally founded in 1895, the store has a reputation for showcasing the newest and hottest trends in fashion from all around the world. The iconic chocolate brown and white vertical striped décor and shopping bags are now going to be seen swinging from every stylish girl’s arm in Atlanta.

The new Henri Bendel storefront in Lenox Mall

Located in Lenox Mall in Buckhead, the Henri Bendel store has taken over what used to be a small portion of Victoria’s Secret on the lower level. It is a small and intimate store, not at all as overwhelming as the five story mother store in NYC. It is a very fitting location given that Victoria’s Secret’s pink stripes are now neighbor to the brown and white stripes.  Even more ironic, is the close proximity to Bloomingdale’s. Any shopaholic knows the 4 B’s of NYC: Barneys, Bergdorf’s, Bloomies and Bendel’s! Is Atlanta’s Peachtree Street becoming the next Rodeo Drive or better yet, Fifth Avenue? Well, after Friday night, I think there is hope!

Dubbed the “ultimate girl’s playground”, Friday night’s grand opening was just that. Girls, young and old, were flocking to the store to play dress-up. Upon entering the glass doors, a server dressed in a tux was serving complimentary champagne on a silver platter. Shoppers were given the VIP opportunity to have their pictures taken in front of a striped backdrop by a photographer that were then posted on the store’s website. Although, the store was a bit crowded given the small size, on any other day it should not be a problem. They have managed to use every single square foot to display the merchandise in a clever and chic manner. Even the walls were decorated to the ceiling in purses. The incredibly friendly staff was helpful and patient as shoppers tried on every piece of jewelry in the store.  A young four-year-old girl was spotted trying on strands of pearls and hair bows while sharing a mirror with a grandmother! The merchandise clearly doesn’t have a defined age range.

Some of my personal favorites were the bangles, scarves and household items. The bangles look great layered up the arm but a note to the wise: you must press a disguised button to open and shut the bangle.

Gorgeous bangles stacked up the arm

The silk scarves ranging from a mere $58 - $138 could rival those of Hermes. Located near the cash register, for a reason, are the household items. While checking out, I stumbled upon the quintessential girl’s night out necessities: a striped enamel poker set with playing cards and martini glasses and shaker set! They even have a puppy section! Your puppy can have a riveted and striped collar and a matching carrier. They have thought of everything indeed!

The store has managed to capture all the charm of the original store and does carry everything from the website.  Be sure to check out the clever names of the items, for example, the “to die for” dice set or the “car wash” earrings. Also, from October 4th-18th you can receive a Henri Bendel Tote loaded with beauty treats with a $150 purchase!

One thing is for sure, you don’t have to be a socialite to shop here, but you will definitely feel like one. The bright lights and infinite amount of pearls and crystals with have every girl in Atlanta seeing stripes.
