Red Rock Resort & Casino Review – Leaving the Las Vegas Strip Behind

Travel and Las Vegas conjure up thoughts of the Las Vegas Strip. The Strip is glitzy, glamorous and full of hustle and bustle, but that doesn’t make it the be-all and end-all. A short drive down the freeway you will find yourself in Summerlin and there you will find the secret that locals try to keep to themselves, the Red Rock Resort & Casino. Trust me, the Red Rock is a secret worth knowing about.

There is nothing the strip has to offer that you can’t find at the Red Rock, but the difference is the Red Rock offers up a more welcoming appeal. Once you are at the Red Rock, you simply feel like you are home, from the first-class hospitality to the calmer and laid back setting. The beauty of this resort strikes you while driving up: the backdrop is the natural beauty of the neighboring Red Rock Mountains. Once you walk through the doors of the Red Rock, your eyes are taken away by the breathtaking and glitzy setting of The Lobby Bar–what an introduction. The beauty of the design of the Red Rock  continues as you make your way through every aspect of the casino; clearly no expense was spared when the Red Rock was built in 2006, and they simply don’t rest on their laurels as they reinvested $35 million in renovations.

The lobby of the Red Rock says it all

The Red Rock could be put up against any resort on the strip when it comes to having the “wow factor” in appearance: rooms that are breathtaking with views to spare, but there is more that sets it apart from those familiar names in Las Vegas. The experiences offered are everything you would expect from Las Vegas and more. But being a mere 10 miles off the strip allowed the Red Rock to create this mecca on a 70 acre parcel of land. This means you don't need to ever leave the Red Rock; everything you could possibly want is all under one roof.

If you came to gamble, you are not going to run out of options at Red Rock. A robust 2,900 slot/video poker machines, 60 table games, a 20-table smoke-free poker room, a 600-seat bingo hall the locals can't stop raving about and the pearl of the oyster, the 206-seat race and sports book, with 96-foot video wall. This is not just any giant screen to watch games, it is the elite of all sports viewing, possibly anywhere in the United States. In August the Red Rock sports book added new 2.5MM Nanoslim Engage LED displays, which are the largest ones of their kind ever installed in North America. This ultra high-definition experience provides you a better picture than you will find anywhere, and the Red Rock gives you nearly 32 yards of wall-to-wall race and sports book brilliance. If you are looking to catch the large schedule of football games on the weekend, or the best March Madness experience around, the Red Rock is the place to be. They take your viewing experience to a level you never thought possible.

If you need a little break from your gaming, there is no better place than the luxury rooms at the Red Rock. You can choose from the wide-ranging 800 rooms that take you from the beautiful 525 square foot standard room all the way up to the 6,500 square foot penthouse-level suite. There really is nothing standard about the standard room: it has a first-class feel and the offset entrances give you a much more secluded feel. From there, the rooms really are whatever your heart desires. If you want a view of the Red Rock mountains and the Las Vegas strip from your room, you can have both views. How about a whirlpool spa for 10 or a Jacuzzi, or you can enjoy butler service at the penthouse level suites. The choices are endless, but imagine if you are throwing a party and can invite the whole group up to your room; that would make for one extraordinary night!

The beautiful rooms at Red Rock

The Red Rock is more than adult fun, with rooms that have multiple bedrooms; this makes for the perfect family vacation as well. If you want to bring the kids but you also want a little time for yourself, the Red Rock Kids’ Quest is an indoor recreation area for children of guests, ages 6 weeks to 12 years, supervised by a professionally trained staff. Your kids will not only have a blast with all of the activities, but you can enjoy yourself knowing they are in a safe environment. Looking for something for the whole family? The gorgeous 72-lane Red Rock Lanes is unlike any other bowling alley you have experienced. Far more than just bowling, you can turn your experience into a party, and they have taken the audio and visual experiences to a nightclub level. You can also find an arcade, a fitness area, a salon to pamper you in any possible way and pools that will please any age and a movie theatre with the latest releases. Finally the one thing that might entice you to leave the property is Red Rock Adventures. You can enjoy the Red Rock Canyon up close and personal with customized adventure activities such as hiking, kayaking, rock climbing and mountain biking.

With Las Vegas becoming the culinary capitol of the United States, the Red Rock has put together a lineup that will do this destination justice. We have to begin with two restaurants from Clique Hospitality: Hearthstone Kitchen & Cellar and Salute. Since inception, Hearthstone has been a favorite among locals and travelers alike, with the fresh ingredients and flavor combinations that resonate throughout the menu, and the recently opened Salute brings some of the finest flavors of Italy to the Red Rock. If you are looking for a memorable dinner, both of these restaurants deliver. That is just the beginning; for a dry-aged prime steak, Tbones Chophouse and Lounge is the place to go. Bringing a wide range of flavors to traditional Asian noodle and rice bowls, 8 Noodle Bar brings out flavors that you might not have imagined. Red Rock is also home to Yard House, and while they seemingly have an endless lineup of beers, their food selection is just as stellar. Finally, what would a casino be without a buffet, and the Red Rock has a fantastic one in Feast Buffet. Not only a great variety of foods and always amazingly fresh, it is one of the best buffet values in all of Las Vegas. You will run out of appetite before you run out of dining options at the Red Rock.

For the strictly adult entertainment, there are plenty of options to choose from. The Rocks Lounge is the opposite of the overcrowded cookie cutter clubs on the Las Vegas strip. This is a very stylish and intimate lounge setting that offers live entertainment such as; Aaron Lewis and Jeff Bridges, and weekly entertainment from the longtime Las Vegas performer Zowie Bowie. The Sandbar Pool Backyard is the city’s largest open-air nightclub and can host public and private events and concerts for up to 3,000 people. The amazing live setting has hosted headline acts including: Tears for Fears, Lifehouse, Weezer, Barenaked Ladies, Goo Goo Dolls and Gipsy Kings. If you want a little more private and adult pool experience, the Cabana Club offers a summertime adult pool party experience on the weekends. If you need to mix a little work with pleasure, the Red Rock property is so vast and spacious it’s perfect for meetings and conventions.

If the Red Rock sounds too good to be true, it isn't. It is one of the magical places that once you visit, you will want to do nothing but come back again. The Las Vegas strip will be come a distant memory, and the Red Rock will be your new Las Vegas home.
