The Plaza in Las Vegas will celebrate the opening of its refurbished pool deck on July 2 – 4 with fireworks, bands, and a DJ. The pool deck is located on the fifth floor of the south tower. The area contains about 70,000 square feet and can accommodate over 900 guests making it one of the largest spaces in downtown Las Vegas.

I enjoyed a pool preview on June 23, 2016. The refurbished area includes a redesigned pool, lily pad daybeds as well as a 12-person hot-tub. The area contains a new cocktail bar, stage for live entertainment, and six private rental cabanas equipped with televisions, fans, refrigerators and a safe.

Food can be purchased from the Food truck located on the pool deck. In May, the truck was lifted - with great fan fare - from the street to the pool deck. It is headed by Shawn Giordano who has over 20 years experience in the culinary industry. It will feature a unique menu of seaside street food. I sampled their ahi tuna lettuce wraps at the pool preview and really enjoyed this hot weather offering. Food delivery is also available from Pop-Up Pizza and Zabo's Mexican Grill located in the hotel.

The recreation area is unique. Besides a tennis court, it offers 16 dedicated Pickleball Courts. At the preview event, Plaza Las Vegas CEO Jonathan Jossel told the crowd that the Plaza is the only hotel/casino in Las Vegas with dedicated courts for this newly popular sport. He also commented that the Plaza plans to hold Pickleball tournements at the pool.

The pool preview event was hosted by former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and current Mayor Caroline Goodman. They both commented that the pool renovations were just one more step in the revitalizing of Downtown Las Vegas.

Frankie Scinta, one of the Scintas entertained with some vintage songs. The Scintas appear two weekends a month at the Plaza.

The pool deck will be open daily from 8 AM until 800 PM. Admission is free for hotel guests and locals. Others will be charged $10. The pool is a nice way to keep cool during the Nevada summer.
