Hotel Sofitel San Francisco Bay Review – An Exquisite Experience

Walking through the door kindly held open by the friendly doormen, there is a beautiful glass chandelier by Dale Chihuly, no less. The lobby has been rehabilitated and modernized recently and there is also a full gym and large pool

Having family in the Menlo Park, Redwood City area, I have had the opportunity to enjoy the facilities of many of the areas hotels.  But on my last visit, I hit the proverbial “jack pot”.  I can’t imagine any place more accommodating and beautiful than the Hotel Sofitel San Francisco Bay . In its décor and style of service, it had a very European flavor.  Managers knew just what was going on.  Staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The views were remarkable.  The location was accessible to the East Bay, the city, Half Moon Bay and San Jose and yet, it was quiet and off the beaten path.

The Hotel Sofitel San Francisco Bay blazed the trail when there were no other buildings around after Seaworld closed.   The result is that the hotel offers one of the most beautiful views anywhere overlooking the enhanced lake, with the mountains and the San Mateo Bridge behind.  And not long after the hotel was built a number of company buildings sprang up and homes with docks, too.

The Hotel Sofitel San Francisco Bay is very user friendly.  There is a free airport shuttle  and  you can park your own car without a charge.  Walking through the door kindly held open by the friendly doormen, there is a beautiful glass chandelier by Dale Chihuly, no less.  The lobby has been rehabilitated and modernized recently.  It is impressive in its size, the way it is divided into different areas, its beautiful clean lines and the warmth it conveys.

The Prestige Suite - 65 sqm, 700 sqf, Large 2 room suite. Separate living room features sofa & chairs, workspace with desk and chair, CD/stereo and panoramic views. King bed, larger bathroom with shower and oval bathtub, hairdryer, high speed internet access, 2 TVs

The Sofitel Suite - 42 sqm, 450 sqf, larger guestroom with King bed, high speed internet access, larger bathroom with both shower and bathtub, separate sitting area with loveseat and table, workspace with desk and chair, 2 TVs, CD/stereo/alarm clock, hairdryer

The Luxury Suite - 22 sqm, 230 sqf, upgraded waterfront lagoon view with King bed, high speed internet access, bathroom with bathtub, workspace with desk and chair, TV, alarm clock/radio, hairdryer

Several family members were staying in the hotel and were considerately placed on the same floor.  Though each suite was different (the Prestige Suite, a Sofitel Suite  and a Luxury Suite), each had a view that could make your spirits soar.  The bathrooms offered efficiency and comfort.  The beds were remarkable and the linens were unusually pleasant near ones skin.  The art objects included attractive pictures, lamps and other decorative pieces, which created a feeling of welcome and pleasantness.

The most amazing brunch we had ever experienced and we've experience lots!

Partial list of the many entrees

The Easter brunch included a bunny

Only some of the amazing deserts, yes they tasted as good as they looked

The lobby shop is a combination of a European market and a gift shop. It is possible to get a snack and wonderful coffee and also some of the best chocolate and confections in the area

Our experiences with the restaurant were very positive.  This included breakfast, room service and a grand Easter Brunch.  In addition to the restaurant, the lobby boasts an unusual shop.  It is the combination of a European market and a gift shop.  It is possible to get a snack and wonderful coffee and also some of the best chocolate and confections in the area.  I observed a guest purchasing some items to take to friends' home as a hostess gift.

The water is a truly an asset.  The gym has a view of the water and an exit to the pool and deck.  The pool area is really beautiful, with a fountain surrounded by a patio surrounded by a deck surrounded by water.  This is a very popular wedding site.

Facilities for meetings, major dinners and special events are impressive.  There are many options providing unusual flexibility.

Fabulous bar serving drinks which include fresh fruits, herbs and fresh squeezed juices

The bar was almost like a world of it’s own.  Once again the view out to the patio, deck and water is beautiful.  But it is the level of performance that set it apart from most other bars.  Their bartenders have been specially trained in special techniques for preparing unusual drinks.  We even observed the bar tender hand squeezing fresh citrus fruits in preparation for mixing drinks a little later.  Fruits are organic and fresh and the vodka is from organic wheat and comes from Idaho.  They also host many activities including that include wine tasting.  On Friday nights they either have their resident DJ or a special visitor.

On Saturday morning, we had a special treat looking out of our bedroom window in the morning and observing punts  in the water, practicing for an upcoming race.
