The actual structure of The Homewood Suites in Henderson, Nevada is set a bit off from the road of its Eastern Avenue address. With the covered driveway entrance on the rear of the building, the property is easily missed unless you know to look for it beyond the construction seen from the road. Walking distance from the Green Valley Ranch shopping area and the St. Rose Siena Hospital Campus, it is an inconspicuous structure whose green lettered sign is most distinguishable at night. However, once you do get inside, you are welcomed by Homewood Suites elegance.
The halls were light with amber lamps and blessedly quiet. The suite was outfitted with a full kitchen: from a full size refrigerator to all the obvious general appliances you would find on your own kitchen countertop. Dishes, silverware, and pots and pans sat waiting in the cabinets, for eventual use on the electric stove or the built-in dishwasher. A small wooden table was just large enough for two, although we didn't actually try to both sit at the table at once.
There were televisions in both the living room and the bedroom; both were set up for playing video games, cable, and a variety of pay-per-view new film releases. The living room area was also an office/work space. A desk with internet connection sits on one side of the room, and modest couch for lounging sits against the wall on the other side, defined by a coffee table separated the two spaces.
The best part about mid to upscale hotels, for me, will always be the bed, and Homewood Suites did not disappoint. Each queen size bed was a pillow-topped mattress, firm and soft at the same time. The bedspreads were made of a stiff cotton that felt a lot like polyester at first touch and the beds were dressed with five white pillows propped against each headboard.
The bathroom was perhaps the most spacious room in the suite, complete with the standard personal size toiletries waiting on the sink. The clear glass doors of the roomy shower is sure to make modest guests blush and it will take you a minute to figure out which knob is for what.
Here's a hint: water pressure is the small lever, water temperature is the big handle. This particular member of the Hilton hotel chain provides its guest with bath sheets, rather than the standard sized towel. It was a clean and fluffy surprise to follow a refreshing hot shower.
Homewood Suites provides its guests with a complimentary breakfast, including an impressive array of bagels, beverages, fruit and juices. The main course this particular morning was hot Sausage, egg and cheese biscuits, straight from Jimmy Dean foods. The dining hall comes equipped with widescreen TV. Or you can simply look out the glass door and take in the sights of the secured pool area.
More corporate than comfy, the Homewood Suites in Henderson are best suited for the business traveler. It provides comfortable accommodations while still attempting to be a real home away from home for its guests. Homewood Suites provides its guests with both a business center and a fitness center; all accessible 24 hour a day with your room keycard.
I liked the convenience of having a full kitchen at my disposal. The waiting packet of microwave popcorn was a very nice touch, as were the mints by the bed. And, by the rapid speed with which husekeeping expedited my request for regular coffee instead of decaf, I am judging the customer service to be exemplary. Every section of the suite did seem to have one piece of furniture too many, so I would not recommend the standard suite for more than two people at a time. Also be advised that the central air system blows out extremely dry air, for both the heat and the cool functions. Folks with sinus conditions beware. The late check in was not a problem and the check out time on Sunday is actually noon.
