1st Class Sleeper Review – Sleep With First Class Comfort in Coach

Never before have I seen anything like the 1st Class Sleeper. Boarding with the sleeper, unrolling it, blowing into it, then sitting on it can be a bit embarrassing in front of everyone. Any previous user of the 1st Class Sleeper would understand though. This thing is about letting you rest, relax, and sleep on a plane without waking up to aches and pain. With just 10 to 11 puffs of air you can turn your seat into a bed and enjoy first-class comfort in coach.

The sleeper lets you finally get the support for a peaceful sleep

History
This was a product designed by Bob Duncan, a pilot of Alaska Airlines. His idea came after finally getting sleep using 11 airline pillows stuffed behind him and the seat belt to hold him in a straight position. After some time he eventually designed the 1st Class Sleeper. It was something lightweight, small, and not sweat conducive that would provide the same support letting someone sleep peacefully.

You can lay straight at a 45 degree angle instead of slouching forward

What is a 1st Class Sleeper
This thing is awesome. It is an air cushion that helps you lay down straight in a coach airline seat. My body is always sore and tired after slouching in an airline seat with my head forward. The whole idea is with 1
0 to 11 puffs of air into the cushion you can lay down straight at a 45 degree angle with full lower back support and head support. This way you don’t get the pains from slouching or sleeping with a tilted neck.

The sleeper was very well designed. I had no problems setting it up, getting comfortable, and falling asleep. In the box it contains a 1st Class Sleeper, nylon carrying bag, and a quickstart guide. The sleeper itself is 37” x 23” deflated. The shape was designed to fill the lower bottom and sides with air. It also fills up the side of the head area to hold your head straight. It comes with a 1 year warranty on the seals in case they break. There is also a 90 day full refund if you’re dissatisfied with it for any reason.

It's small enough to just hold in your hand or stuff into a bag. It rolls up and fits nicely into the drawstring pouch. The whole thing weights only one pound. When deflated it can fit into a tube about 2.5” in diameter and 11” long. That’s about the size of a water bottle. The sleeper is made of a sturdy material to make it as lightweight as possible without causing sweat to build up.

How To Use It

The sleeper is small enough to carry onto the plane by hand

To use it simply unroll it, blow 10 to 11 big puffs of air into it, place it on the seat, sit near the edge of the seat, and lay back. It felt very comfortable wrapping around my body, filling in the gap between my back. Just grab the top of the sleeper and pull it up while leaning back to get the head piece to wrap around your head. After a minute I was laying back with my body straight ready for a nice comfortable sleep.

It’s often hard to get exactly the right amount of air into the sleeper. Putting too much air defiantly makes it uncomfortable. The best technique I’ve found is to fill it a little more then you think and let out the air slowly till your comfortable. Depending on the size of the person is how much air they need to feel comfortable. The 1st Class Sleeper is recommended for anyone up to 300 lbs.

It can also be folded in half to be used just for lumbar support with only 4 breaths. It can also be used in both positions, the sleeper and lumber, in the car. 1st Class Sleeper doesn’t recommend the driver to be using it in the sleeper position unless parked on the side of the road.

The inflation tube is easy to blow into, open, and close. It has a screw valve so it’s more secure then the typical inflatable. It also can connect to the plane’s air vent above if you don’t want to breathe into it. The fabric feels comfortable without being “sticky.” Deflating it was easy. It was just twisting open the value, leaning back, folding it in half twice, and then rolling it up.

Overall
There are those neck supports you’ve seen for sleeping in a sitting position but this takes that to a whole higher level. With only 10 puffs of air you can support your whole entire body in an airline seat. Being able to sleep straight and with back and neck support will get rid all those pains after waking up from a flight. If I’m going to get some sleep on a flight I'm going to choose to sleep with this over anything else. This is an amazing product, if you’ve ever had any problems sleeping on a plane this will make them go away.
