Chicago Trolley's Holiday Lights Tour, Review – A Festive Night of Lights

Chicago Trolley and Double Decker Co. offers a fun and festive way to celebrate the holiday season with its traditional “Holiday Lights Tour.” With stops at some of Chicago’s favorite seasonal attractions, as well as a travel route through beautifully decorated neighborhoods, this is a trip not to be missed.

The tour departs the John Hancock Tower and minutes later  reaches its first destination, Sprinkles Cupcakes. This newly added stop generously provides complimentary and delicious cupcakes to all riders; in fact, they come right on the bus to deliver these delightful sweet treats.

As passengers enjoy their cupcakes, the trolley heads down the Magnificent Mile, where the streets are lined with beautiful white twinkling lights. These white lights outlining the strip can be attributed to Sacs Fifth Avenue, who, for years, ordered these types of lights to display in front of their store. As the years went on this style became the norm and Michigan Avenue has become the lighting spectacle it is today.  A few blocks away is the trolley’s next stop, the Christkindlmarket in Daley Plaza. This German-American market features homemade ornaments, authentic German foods, and my personal favorite, mugs full of mulled wine and hot chocolate.

A holiday favorite, the Christkindlmarket offers those in attendance a unique outdoor winter experience. Once riders wrap up their time at the market, it is time for the tour to head north and see more exciting things along the way.  First is the Macy’s Holiday Windows which show viewers a continuous story from window to window; picking up where the last left off. Next is Chicago’s holiday tree, which for the first time ever is being displayed in Millennium Park.

The final stop is Lincoln Park Zoo’s annual Zoo Lights!  This is an activity that is fun for all ages to explore the ornate lights strung throughout the entire zoo. The tour wraps up with a ride back to the Hancock Tower where riders depart after a wonderful night of lights.
