“Layla arrives in Brixton, London from Trinidad, full of fantasies about her new life ahead, but she soon realises that she is an outsider, both at home and among her peers. She finds a friend in underdog “Shaun” but yearns for status and belonging. Rescue comes in the dazzling form of local top boy “Troy,” who sweeps her off her feet into a world of romance. But when Troy dumps her, she is left heart-broken and socially shunned. “Layla” vows to rebuild herself as a hardened player in order to win Troy back and Shaun becomes a pawn in her game. A rarely seen female perspective on gang culture, "Honeytrap Movie" is authentically local in setting but universal in its themes of passion, jealousy and revenge.”

“Honeytrap” made its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival, and will have a theatrical release in the UK in May.

Honeytrap was set in London and inspired by true events. The 15-year old Layla ( Jessica Sula) naive and desperate young teenager who craves the acceptance from her peers. She has to look like them, behave like them, but sadly she has low self-esteem and she loses herself by needing the attention of the gang's leader Troy (Lucien Laviscount). Layla knows what she has been doing is wrong, but she will do it anyway in order to gain the approval from Troy and her peers. Layla is new into the gang’s culture, she doesn’t know the rules, she believes in her romance with Troy, but soon she reallizes that women in the gang’s culture are sexually promiscuous, aren’t considered as long-term partners,  and are unhappily stigmatized by both men and women in order to get respect and hierarchy. On the contrary,  instead of being herself, she pretends to be a femme fatale in order to gain back Troy’s attention, but her behavior leads her to take part in a tragic act of violence.
