Midnight Special’ had its world premiere during the 2016 SXSW Music, Film + Interactive Festival at Paramount Theatre in Austin, TX on Saturday March 12th at 6:00PM. The movie has a release date tomorrow March 18th in the US market. The cast Kirsten Dunst, Michael Shannon, Jaeden Lieberher, Joel Edgerton, and Jeff Nichols Director of ‘Midnight Special’ attended the premiere.

Jeff Nichols, one of Austin’s filmmakers premiered the movie “Mud” at SXSW in 2013, just three years ago. It is indeed very stimulating to watch a movie during SXSW with such an emerging filmmaker and an amazing cast. He has returned to SXSW 2016 with his fourth film which is a sci-fi motion picture called ‘Midnight Special.’ The film is about a chase that follows a father and son from West Texas to the panhandle of Florida. Nichols wrote the film to make an expression about the relationship between a father and son, and he states it’s how he feels respectively about his own son, and that being a loving parent and creating a human life is an intense and beautiful feeling.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Faliro House Productions, a Tri-State Production: “Midnight Special.” The film is set for release on March 18, 2016, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

About Jeff Nichols:

Jeff Nichols wrote and directed “Shotgun Stories,” which earned an Independent Spirit nomination, the Grand Jury Prize at the Seattle and Austin Film Festivals, and the International Jury Prize at Viennale. He also wrote and directed “Take Shelter,” which took Cannes honors and five Independent Spirit nominations and “Mud,” which won an Independent Spirit nomination.

In the sci-fi thriller 'Midnight Special,' writer/director Jeff Nichols proves again that he is one of the most compelling storytellers of our time. In the movie a father (Michael Shannon) goes on the run to protect his young son, Alton (Jaeden Lieberher), and uncover the truth behind the boy’s special powers. What starts as a race from religious extremists and local law enforcement quickly escalates to a nationwide manhunt involving the highest levels of the Federal Government. Ultimately, his father risks everything to protect Alton and help fulfill a destiny that could change the world forever, in this genre-defying film as supernatural as it is intimately human.
