Mia Maestro exclusive interview with Yenis Monterrey, LA Splash Magazine, June 7th 2014.
Can you tell me about yourself and how long have you been living in America?
Mia Maestro: “I’m from Argentina. I have been in the States for 14 years.”
Can you tell me about the process to audition for your role in The Strain TV Show?
Mia Maestro: “The process was quite long, about one month. I read fist for Guillermo del Toro and then two more reading. When I got the call that I have gotten the role it was quite lovely. It was great that the process lasted for a long time so it gave me time to read the novels, you know the show is based in three novels.”
Have you have any obstacles about getting roles because of your accent?
Mia Maestro:" I haven’t had any problem at all with my accent at all and I have been always representing Latinas with an accent. My role on “The Strain” series is very lovely because Guillermo wanted me to be me. I also did a TV show a few years ago called “Alias" where J.J Abrams also wrote a character for me, he incorporated where I’m from and my accent and everything so I consider myself quite lucky."
Can you tell me a little bit about your character in "The Strain”?
Mia Maestro: My character “Nora Martinez” in “The Strain” is from Argentina. The show is based in NY and she is a Biochemist and works for CDC with Corey Stoll's character “Dr. Ephraim Goodweather.” We work very good as partners and they have a little bit of love story and together fight the virus “The Strain” that turns out to be vampirism.”
How is it like working with Guillermo del Toro?
Mia Maestro: “Working with Guillermo has been really amazing. He is so creative and very unique with sensitivity with my character. He is such a visionary.”
I’m particularly very impressed with the modesty and charisma of Mia Maestro, a very talented and beautiful Latina and her role as “Nora Martinez” will become one of the audience's favorite characters. The Premiere of the highly anticipated drama is set for Sunday July 13 at 10 PM ET/PT on FX Network.
