ATX Television Festival Opening Night Red Carpet - “Queen of the South” from USA Network

ATX Television Festival 2016 #ATXTVs5  had its opening night red carpet on Thursday, June 9th at Austin's historic Paramount Theatre.

The fifth annual ATX Television Festival kicked off its opening night with a red carpet and premiere of the pilot episode of the upcoming drama named “Queen of the South” from USA Network that was followed by a Q&A. During the Q&A the cast and executive producer David Friendly fielded questions hosted by Buzzfeed editor Jarett Wieselman. One of the topics discussed by the international cast was how well “Queen of the South” stays true to the narco world. The TV series about drug trafficking will have its first season of 13 episodes that is set to air on June 23, 2016.  It is based on the book “La Reina del Sur” by Arturo Pérez-Reverte.  The series centers on Teresa Mendoza who goes on the run after her drug-dealing boyfriend is killed unexpectedly in Mexico.  In the process, she teams up with someone from her past to bring down the leader of the drug trafficking ring. The 13-episode series stars Alice Braga  (“I Am Legend”) as Teresa, Gerardo Taracena (“Apocalypto”) as Cesar “Batman” Guemes, Hemky Madera (“Weeds”) as Pote Galvez , Joaquim de Almeida (“Our Brand is Crisis”) as Epifanio, Jon Ecker (“Narcos”)  as Guero, Justina Machado (“Six Feet Under”) as Brenda Parra, Peter Gadiot, and Veronica Falcon (“Besos de Azúcar”) as Camila Vargas.  The show is also executive produced by David T. Friendly (“Little Miss Sunshine,” “Courage Under Fire”), along with M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller (“The Final Girls”).

Nick WechslerRevenge” and Matt Lauria, known as Ambassadors of the festival were in attendance at the opening night on the red carpet.   Lauria was also at the festival to discuss his show "Kingdom" and participate in the reunion with cast members from "Friday Night Lights".

The festival founders Emily Gipson and Caitlin McFarland and their extraordinary team have done exceptional work during the last 5 season of the ATX Television Festival. They have put together a worthwhile TV festival that brings together historic, lasting, and notable TV shows that celebrate all aspects of TV.
