Jd's Introduction - An interview with Singer/Songwriter Jd Webb

Throughout Los Angeles it isn’t hard to find someone famous. Celebrities from movies, TV and music are walking up and down the street past us daily. However, it is rare to find celebrities who are so down-to-earth you’d never even know about the incredible heights they’ve reached. In comes award-winning singer, songwriter and producer, Jd Webb. This LA-based, Hawaii-born, handsome young man is very well known all over the country for captivating audiences with his soulful voice and charismatic performance style. Impressively, he has been noted as "prolific songwriter" by both Rolling Stone and CCM Magazine and is an esteemed recipient of Billboard Magazine's "stamp of approval." He’s has made a significant mark in the music industry and has performed before tens of thousands both internationally and at sold out tours throughout the United States. The fame and his critical acclaim come with his former group projects, one of which was the popular band Raze. However, now Webb has gone out on his own.

With an immense talent for playing piano, drums and guitar in addition to his commanding crooning, Webb has shared the stage with acts such as: POD, Lifehouse, Johnny Lang, Michael McDonald, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Yolanda Adams, Steven Curtis Chapman, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Sixpence None the Richer and Jars Of Clay, just to name a few. Bringing romance back to music is what he’s all about. Many agree that Webb’s sound is R&B-Soul with a pop twist and he as well acknowledges that much of his music is derived from influences that include: Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Michael McDonald, Aretha Franklin, and Brian McKnight. You can hear it in his voice and see it in his charm on stage.

Webb’s music career has been quite a journey and after much tenacity and courtships by major labels, Webb has decided to pursue his solo career through the up and coming record label Infinite Music Group. He will be releasing his fan-anticipated debut solo album “The Introduction” May 5, 2009.

We got to sit with him at a recent Hollywood party and chat a bit about what’s coming next. Check it out!

LAS: You have a new single "Big For Me" coming out, tell us about the song and why you chose to release it first.
JW: “Big For Me” is a mellow groove that takes you on a Sunday afternoon journey. I'm the kind of guy that is usually going 90 miles an hour. This song is about coming to the realization that, somehow this girl has consumed all of my thoughts and now my focus isn't the money or the next big venture, it's making her happy. Knowing that THIS is the girl. That's big for a lot of guys and definitely big for me. I think we decided to release it first because it's very different. You won't hear other songs like this on the radio. I wanted to come out of the gate giving people something where they can't wait to hear more. “Big For Me” just felt like the right fit.

LAS: Why did you name your debut album "The Introduction"?
JW: Even though I've been in the music game for a while, this is my first solo project. So it's an introduction into the music that's completely me. From writing to producing to arranging and playing most of the instruments, it's really the introduction into who I am as an artist.

LAS: Did you collaborate with anyone on this album or did you work on production all on your own?
JW: I collaborated with some amazing talent- Charles Jones who's worked with Joss Stone, Jennifer Hudson, Raphael Saadiq, just to name a few, as well as Brandon Coleman (David Foster, Jennifer Lopez, Music Soulchild). These guys are unbelievably talented and amazing guys.

LAS: What can we look forward to seeing you do in 2009?
JW: 2009 is looking really busy. We're putting the final touches on the CD now and doing a few shows here and there before we gear up for the world tour. I'll be in a city near you very soon!
