Piemonte Wine Tasting – Stellar Vintages from the Alps’ Foothills

A welcome change from the sometimes hectic pace of their larger events in Chicago, this time IEEM instead hosted an intimate gathering for the media and trade at Francesca’s on Chestnut.

This intimate setting in the Francesca’s cellar dining room allowed the wines to better shine.  (This was also a welcome reminder of Francesca’s itself—strong mental note made of its pleasant surrounds.)

Four vineyards presented samples – Marco Bonfante Sri; Rosoretto Sri; Salvano Sri and Vite Colte.   Only one of these vintners, Salvano, currently has a distributor for Chicago—although that may have changed judging by the intense conversations at the tasting tables.

Of the 24 wines on display, we sampled both whites and reds.  How difficult it must have been for the would-be brokers to choose from one vintner to another.  These were all excellent—poster children for the quality of Piemonte wines in general and steering this reviewer to always look for them in the future at fine dining restaurants.
