Little Black Dress Wine Review - Light and Lovely

Elizabeth dress for auction

Little Black Dress wines are fun, pleasant and especially enjoyable on warm summer evenings.  It’s website states, “From black tie events to backyard barbecues, Little Black Dress offers four varietals to accompany any get-together: Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Merlot. “   These wines were introduced when the little black dress, an indispensable part of a woman’s wardrobe, turned 80 years old in 2006. Little Black Dress wines see themselves as special for women as the little black dress they may be wearing when they drink the wine.  The company is also distinguished by the support it offers to Clothes Off Our Back Foundation.  The Clothes Off Our Back Foundation raises funds for children’s charities auctioning celebrity dresses.

Little Black Dress chardonnay

We began our wine tasting while celebrating our granddaughter’s graduation from University.   One evening a small group dined and enhanced the meal with the Little Black Dress 2006 Chardonnay.  It had a light golden color and a pear bouquet. Our light repast included eggs, fish, vegetables and cheese.  Some comments included, “very pleasant wine that goes well with goat cheese and water crackers”,  “It’s dry and pleasant and goes down easily”, “It’s the perfect accompaniment for light food enhancing the food flavors”.  With the Chardonnay accompaniment, a simple meal became a celebration.

Little Black Dress Pinot Grigio

Little Black Dress Pinot Grigio 2007 was the next to be sampled.  Again, it was an undistinguished meal made special by the wine.  Its’ bouquet had a hint of peach and the color was reminiscent of Champagne.  It was mildly effervescent, mellow, refreshing and pleasant to drink.  I was nicer than the usual Pinot Grigio, not excessively sweet and was a lovely experience.  It does do better, however, when well chilled.

Try the Merlot

One evening, when we were having a more substantial meal, we tried the Little Black Dress Merlot 2006.  The bouquet was of berries.  Its’ color was ruby and there was a rich flavor, fruity and complex. This is the wine in advertisements for Little Black Dress. Wines.

Little Black Dress Pinot Noir at Ravinia Music Festival

But it was the Little Black Dress Pinot Noir that received the best coverage.  We took this with us to a gathering of University of Minnesota Alums attending the Ravinia Music Festival in Highland Park (IL).  Many enjoyed, many commented. Mayer- “I like it- a nice one”, Cara-“I recognize the bouquet of fruit immediately, probably black cherry and black berry”, Pat – “Good nose, fruity, smooth, young and could be more full bodied”, Heather – “Pleasant nose, blueberry, fresh, young but not too dry”.  This was our favorite of the group and the tasting notes describe a finish of strawberry and pomegranate.  Beginning in summer, 2008, the Pinot Noir will be sourced from the Languedoc in France.

Little Black Dress Wines are reasonably priced and easily available.  The website, will quickly and easily tell you where you can find the wines in your area.
