This battle of mixologists was hosted by the United States Bartenders’ Guild at LONO in Los Angeles. Brittney beat out bartenders from Los Angeles, San Diego, and Hawaii showcasing the artistry that goes into making an imaginative cocktail. This summer, Brittney and 11 other top mixologists from across North America will head to England – the home of Bombay Sapphire and its Laverstoke Distillery – to vie for the 2017 North American title. In advance of the finale, all 12 finalists will head to New Orleans in July for the annual trade festival, Tales of a Cocktail, where the competitors will meet for the first time and have the opportunity to participate in a number of seminars led by industry leaders.

“It’s such an honor to be recognized for my cocktail after competing against some of the best bartenders in the region,” says Olsen, “So many previous MIB winners have gone on to become such an inspiration in the bartending community, so it’s thrilling to be one step closer to being a part of that legacy. This competition always brings out an exceptional level of artistry, showcased through mixology, and I cannot wait to continue on this journey and learn from my peers. Representing Los Angeles in England this summer is going to be an invaluable experience for my career.”

Prepping for the Competition

The competition was open to LA’s crowd of cocktail aficionados where both guests and judges gathered at LONO to sample cocktails made by the region’s top talent. After the daunting task of tasting each cocktail, the panel of judges named Los Angeles’s Brittney and her “Snow Don’t Fall” cocktail as the evening’s “Most Imaginative” based on appearance, aroma, imagination, and taste.

The 11th Annual North American finals will take place in England this August.

The winning cocktail recipe, Snow Don’t Fall:
1.5oz Bombay Sapphire Gin
0.75oz Shitake curacao
0.5 oz lime juice
1.5oz cantaloupe and coconut water puree
