(New York)- Ava Anderson Founder, Chief Executive Officer, Director of Product Development of a new innovative skincare sought out to find a solution to a growing problem she saw in the cosmetics industry. The issued at hand has been swept under the rug and slipped through the cracks. It is the unsafe cosmetics and skincare lines available for consumers. Believe or not the mastermind behind the first non-toxic skin and cosmetics line is Ava Anderson, a 15 year old entrepreneur from Rhode Island.
After seeing reports of harmful chemicals found in teenâs bloodstream from cosmetics companies, it sparked a plug in
Anderson to find something safe for her and her teenage friends to use. The
Environmental Working Group (EWG) has a website that actually measures the level hazardous ingredients in each product. In
EWG scores products from 0-10 on the hazarder level. In the Cosmetic database web site, it states, âIt's our mission at the
Environmental Working Group to use the power of information to protect human health and the environment.â Skin Deep has nearly one million page views per month. It is the worldâs largest product safety guide with 55,122 product reviews and 8,991 ingredients showcased.â
Anderson made it her mission to create a 100%
non-toxic skincare line. âI couldnât stop thinking about it and I was frustrated when I discovered that despite claims of ânaturalâ and âorganicâ ingredients, most products sold as healthy alternatives still contained hazardous ingredients.â She created a line that was free of
parabens (which is a preservative used in cosmetics often linked to cancer),
pthalates, and any other ingredient that doesn't rate a zero in safety.
Anderson added, âI had become really angry at how consumers were unaware of the risks of personal care products, and that even those who thought they were making safe choices were unaware of the true nature of the ingredients in their products.â
The skin is the largest organ in the human body and every single product that touches your body absorbs into the blood stream. Women who are pregnant are at high risk of passing these toxins to their unborn child. âAccording to Skin Deep, ( cosmeticsdatabase.com) up to 80% of products may contain one or more hidden hazards that are not even listed on the product labels.â In the ingredient called "fragrance" or "parfum", manufacturers can legally hide up to 600 toxic chemicals and not list them on your label. âOne thing that is hidden in that word 80% of the time is phthalates (thay-lates), which are endocrine disruptors that cause genetic mutation in 100% of testing, and are now being linked to autismâ (by Dr Philip Landrigan at Mt Sinai)
Anderson was able to find people interested in her idea. With the manufacturing company, together they figured out the formulations, packaging, and where to sell the line.
Anderson decided to sell online and through independent consultants.
Anderson currently has 500 consultants in 38 states who sell her line. She felt that this method of selling would be beneficial because the consumer can be properly educated about the importance of using
non-toxic cosmetics. The complete
Ava Anderson Non-Toxic Skin Care includes Cleanser, Toner, Moisturizer, Eye Makeup Remover Pads, Exfoliator and Sugar Lip Scrub which is sold for $108.70 dollars. All of which can be purchased separately. The price points are no higher than $21.95 dollars. The exfoliator, also the most expensive skew in the line ($21.95), is infused with luxurious apricot kernels that ensure a light exfoliation and impart a smooth, supple, and radiance to the skin ($21.95). The eye makeup remover breaks down makeup with a smooth swipe on the eye with no burning or irritation ($14.95).
Ava Andersonâs first Non-Toxic Skin Care launched only four months ago, but due to its success it was expanded into a makeup line this month. Ava used ingredients for her line that are anti-bacterial such as Neem, an ingredient found in trees in India that has healing properties.
Ava Andersonâs favorite product is her exfoliator. âI like the pomegrante and apricot seed granules. It is good for a face or body scrub and great for pedicures.â In the future Ava sees herself expanding her line to cater specifically for men and children. Kim Anderson, mother, and President of Ava Anderonâs Non-Toxic line is incredibly proud of Ava. âShe is so focused and passionate about her line. This will change the country and make a difference,â said Kim Anderson.
