"An Academic Actress."
Samantha Michelle has just left the world of academia, in which she has spent the past four years of her life immersed, and relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career in film, television, and theatre. Though she's only been out of college and conservatory for a mere three months, Samantha has already shot three feature films, both locally and abroad; distinguished by way of her unique background, distinct approach to training, and commitment to her craft, Samantha seems to be making quite a stir in this town.
Originally from Toronto, Canada, Samantha grew up with a love of learning and an insatiable curiosity about the world and the creatures that fill it. With her eyes fixed on her dream school, NYU, Samantha was an incredibly focused student in her later years of high school, obsessed with the opportunity she ultimately successfully procured for herself - moving to live and study in New York City, which she did at the age of 17. At the completion of the first year of her liberal arts degree, with a month to fill before she was to relocate to Paris to study French for the summer, Samantha opted to explore the world of acting, having fallen in love with Cameron Crowe's ALMOST FAMOUS, transfixed by the desire to play a character like Penny Lane. She enrolled in the New York Film Academy's Acting for Film Intensive Program and whilst participating in the program, starred in nine student films, produced by NYFA's filmmaking students.
Whilst in Paris, she decided to explore the world of Method Acting, training with Amy Werba - a student of Lee Strasberg's - at the Bilingual Acting Studio. Samantha then returned to NYC, declared a self-designed major for herself, making her the only student at the time, in NYU's College of Arts and Science, pursuing such an individualized program. She then decided that her college career would not be complete had she failed to fulfill another childhood dream of studying at Oxford University; Samantha took a year off of NYU, transferred to Hertford College (Oxford University) where she spent a year studying five different academic departments. It was in Oxford that Samantha discovered her love of theatre whilst studying Shakespeare and Modern British Drama as an academic and performing in several of the university's experimental and acclaimed productions including Lorca's THE BUTTERFLY'S EVIL SPELL and a new, highly controversial, adaptation of ANTIGONE, in which she played Tiresias. Reluctant to leave England, Samantha spent the summer training in an Acting Shakespeare Intensive Program at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art; it was during her time at LAMDA that Samantha decided that acting was what she wanted to pursue, once she completed her degree.
It was her degree that brought her back to NYC, to write her senior thesis, for which she was awarded summa cum laude. Having discovered her true passion, Samantha took advantage of all NYC offers aspiring actors, and began taking classes at some of the city's most reputable studios including the Stella Adler and T. Schreiber studios and working with some of the world's top coaches, such as Tom Todoroff. She also found a way to indulge in her love of acting Shakespeare, whilst working away on her final essays, by performing as Ophelia in the Oxford Shakespeare Center's production of HAMLET in Tribeca. Samantha graduated from NYU in May at the top of her class with a 3.94 GPA; immediately following her graduation, she came out to California, enrolled in the South Coast Repertory Theatre's professional conservatory program, which she completed in August, and has since been settling in to her new home in West Hollywood.
She currently studies with Brian Reise, Richard Portnow, and Bob Corff and in the midst of filming the independent horror film, BLOOD RUSH, in which she plays one of the lead characters, Jessica, a dark and disturbed social outcast who finds herself fighting against blood-addicted zombies for the life she's not entirely sure she wants. After spending the past few years travelling around the world, living and learning both in and out of school, Samantha is thrilled to have permanently relocated to LA, and feels very lucky and grateful to have had the opportunity to dive straight into the sea that is the town's entertainment industry and looks forward to discovering, and committing, to her new project! That said, her passport is always in reach...
