After studying at the University of Cinema and Drama in Bucharest, Romania, Maria Dinulescu’s career took flight when she first gained international notice in 2003 for her short in the film Traffic by winning the Palme d’Or in Cannes.
She returned to Cannes in 2007 as the winner of the Un Certain Regard section for her lead role in the film California Dreamin’. She was also awarded the Best Actress Prize at the BIAF Georgia and Arte Mare from France for her astounding performance in the film.
Dinulescu subsequently participated as the lead in the film Hooked, which had its world premiere at the 65th Venice Film Festival. Her role as Ana-Violeta was described as “bewitching” by the Hollywood Reporter and as “bubbly (in a difficult role)” by Variety. Due to her performance in the film she won Best Actress in both the Thessaloniki and Buenos Aires Film Festivals.
Her list of work has since grown as she’s landed several lead roles in various films. Dinulescu has also had her share of television when she worked on the HBO-produced Romanian version of the television series In Treatment. She has also participated in over 10 successful short films, commercials, and was also the lead in the Peace music video by Depeche Mode. She also added the title of Sexiest Woman Alive Atlas, 2010 by Esquire Magazine for Romania to her extensive list of accomplishments.
