Miss California USA - Girls, Girls, Girls

Miss California 2011: Alyssa and Nicole (2010)

The brilliant sunshine shone on Rancho Mirage’s famed hotel/casino Aqua Caliente where on November 21, 2010, the new Miss California USA was chosen.  Hosted by Keith Lewis and Shanna Moakler, the audience was privy to the two hour culmination ceremony.

Miss California 2011: 213 contestants

For two days, 213 girls, from all over California, paraded around in swim suits, evening gowns, answering questions and performing.  They were judged not only on their beauty, but their pose, dignity and the way they answered the questions brought to them.

Judges included such celebrities as Heath Freeman, Jonathan Doone, Michael Boychuck, Dr. Terry Dubrow, Claudia Jordan, Stefanie Christina von Pfetten, John Arguelles, Chelsi Smith, Ian Drew, Kelly Monaco, Nicole Steinwedell, Dimitry Loiseau, Trishelle Cannatella, Christie Bear, Travis Aaron Wade, Samantha Dunn, and Nole Marin.

The afternoon began by a welcome from the current Miss California USA 2010, Nicole Johnson, who gave highlights of her year and welcomed the new contestants.  Many of the girls have been on the pageant cycle for years before reaching this level.  The top twenty included the women from Mar Vista (Lindsay Lauren Becker), Malibu, Ventura County, Laurel Canyon, Hillsboro, Greater Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, Orange County, Central Coast (Tommy Lynn Loyd), Thousand Oaks, San Vincente (Natalie Hall), Riverside (Melanie Ahumada), Rocklin (Susan Romanishin), Rancho Mirage, Greater Sacramento (Amanda Nicole Parker). As the girls changed into their swim suits, Miss Teen California 2010, Emma Baker, spoke to the group about her cause Love is Louder.  The group, fighting against cyberbullies, is dear to the hearts of many parents.

Miss California 2010: Ten Finalists

Once in their suits, the final ten were chosen. These were Greater LA (Brittany McGowan), LA County, Greater San Diego (Ashley Alcala), Laurel Canyon, Hillsboro, Malibu (Erin White), Rancho Mirage(Allie Ibarra), Miss LA, Ventura County and Thousand Oaks (Natasha Martinez). I was sorry to see that Orange County (Erica Marie Spencer) did not get into the group, but I am sure the judges were careful of decisions.

Then came the final test – the interview question. The audience waited impatiently for the judges to make their choices known.  Miss LA was fourth runner up, Miss Ventura became third, Miss LA was second, and first runner up was Laurel Canyon.  That left Alyssa Campanella, Miss Hillsboro as the new Miss California USA.

With tears in her eyes she made the walk down the carpeted aisle.  Based on what she said, I believe she’ll make a great Miss California and perhaps after that Miss USA and then Miss Universe.

Miss California 2011: Miss Santa Monica, Desiree Lee Cuchiara

Miss Santa Monica (Desiree Lee Cuchiara) was chosen Miss Congenality.  Miss Oceanside (Leyvonna Swygert) won the swim suit award, while Miss Northern Inglewood (Emperial J.
