Center Stage Opera Presents Madama Butterfly
Date: June 7, 2014
Center Stage Opera presents one of the most beloved operas of all-time, Puccini's Madama Butterfly!
On June 7th and 8th, 2014, Center Stage Opera will conclude their 2013/14 season with Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. No other composer truly captures the natural flow and music of poetry quite like Puccini. This fully-staged production will be presented with traditional Japanese costumes and staging and is sure to be an unforgettable experience for the senses.
Two exceptional sopranos, Marina Harris and Adrien Roberts, will be bringing their considerable vocal and dramatic talents to the role of Cio Cio San ("Butterfly"). Both phenomenal performers have appeared in past Center Stage Opera productions and are long-time favorites of CSO audiences. This production, directed by Dylan F. Thomas and conducted by Music Director Brian Onderdonk, will be a spectacular send-off to another stellar season.
This tragic, tender story of Madama Butterfly tells the tale of a Japanese girl and an American naval officer and is told through one of Puccini’s most poignant, moving scores. Madama Butterfly, a young Japanese geisha who clings to the belief that her arrangement with a visiting American naval officer is a loving and permanent marriage, is one of the defining roles in opera, as convincing and tragic as any figure in drama.
Based in Los Angeles County's San Fernando Valley, Center Stage Opera brings only the highest quality operatic and musical productions to diverse audiences in the Valley and beyond. CSO offers unique outreach, educational, and senior programs throughout Southern California, as well as professional development programs that enable singing actors, instrumentalists, and technicians working in the operatic field to gain valuable experience.
*Sung in Italian with English supertitles.
