The Jazz Butchers
Performance date: October 13
Genre: Smooth Jazz

The Jazz Butchers are the epitome of “smooth jazz.” During the 1970's, Los Angeles had a thriving jazz scene. Many musicians, who worked on records, in film and television, animation and commercials, also enjoyed the ever-expanding jazz scene in the LA area. Los Angeles, however, was a work horse that was never recognized for its own contribution in shaping modern jazz that blended traditional jazz, blues, groove, electric, and horns and The Jazz Butchers’ recreates that “smooth sound” in their performances. The group consists of Ron Blake (trumpet); Chris Mitchell (guitar); Chris Mitchell (composer/musician); Dave Curry (bass); Dan West (keyboards) and Jason Lingle (Drums). The band’s latest CD, “Florence and Normandie” is now available. For more information and to sample their music, visit
