L.A. Premiere of UglyRhino's MINDSPIN
Date: March 29, 2013
New York-based theatre company, UglyRhino, has had critical success with their brand of site-specific, interactive theatre. For the first time in their three-year history, the company is producing a show outside of the Lyceum, the renovated-bath-house-turned-performance-space in Brooklyn the company calls home. A new full-length play, MINDSPIN, will open in Los Angeles on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Red Loft in downtown.
MINDSPIN tells the story of two women with a complex relationship that blurs friendship, work and creative collaboration. When a new man enters their lives for a night, he forces them to address their inner “mindspin” of self-doubt, identity and sexual desires. Conceived and written by Bryce Norbitz (Executive Producer of UglyRhino) and Nicole Rosner (UglyRhino's Artistic Director), MINDSPIN is a theatrical experience that allows the audience to interact with the performers and sets. The actors even serve the audience a curated cocktail during the show; an "Afternoon Tea," a variation on a spiked sweet tea with a twist of orange.
The characters of MINDSPIN are musicians, and music plays a key part of the experience. While the actors perform an original song and a new arrangement of a cover, the originally composed soundtrack for the evening was created by NY-based composer Jesse Flower-Ambroch. The set, designed by Ariel Boroff, which is specific to the Red Loft, includes original photography from Steve Paynie and custom installations by Harley Pretchel-Cortez, which was inspired by MINDSPIN. Lighting was designed by Anna Martin.
The cast includes: David Bly, Becca Lustgarten, Jon Matthews, Zachary Puchtel, Jessica Richmond, Lauren Swann, and Tanya Zoeller.
Tickets are $20 - includes curated cocktails
