Ronna Wineberg with SECOND LANGUAGE

To the list of familiar lawyer-writers that include John Grisham, Scott Turow, Phillip Margolin, Lisa Scottoline, David Baldacci, Philip Friedman, and Linda Fairstein, add Ronna Wineberg. Her first book, a collection of short stories, entitled, SECOND LANGUAGE was released in early October and she is currently reading and signing her book in stores throughout the country.
On October 26, 2005, an auspicious night in the Chicago area as the White Sox became World Series Champions, Ronna Wineberg appeared at 'The Book Stall at Chestnut Court' in Winnetka, Illinois. She read to an overflow crowd about Sonia Chernoff, an elderly widow looking for closure.

Ronna Wineberg was born in Chicago, educated at the University of Michigan and the University of Denver College of Law, and has been writing for seventeen years. In 2004, she received a fellowship in fiction from the New York Foundation for the Arts and has been fiction editor of the BELLEVIEW LITERARY REVIEW since 2000. Her short stories have appeared in numerous literary journals. She has been awarded residencies to the Virginia Center of the Creative Arts and the Ragdale Foundation where most of her recent writing was accomplished, has been a public defender, had a private law practice and taught writing at New York University. She lives in New York with her husband and three children.

'The Book Stall at Chestnut Court' was established in 1940 as ' Chestnut Court' and took its current name in 1986. Roberta Rubin is its owner. In this 5,000 sq. foot store can be found 68,000 titles with a specialty section of autographed books. Best-selling authors can be found there every week.
Wineberg credited The Ragdale Foundation for providing her with time away from other duties where it was possible for her to develop her stories. The Ragdale Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide a peaceful place for artists of all disciplines to work. Poet Alice Judson Hayes created The Ragdale Foundation in 1976. Susan Page Tillett is Executive Director of The Ragdale Foundation and Anne Le Claire is an author of many books who also has been a resident at The Ragdale Foundation. Both women were present at Ronna Wineberg's book signing to welcome one of their own.
